The pandemic meant that we had to change the way we live our lives, which, of course, includes piracy of multimedia content on the Internet. In case you don’t know, curiously, one of the immediate effects of COVID-19 was the extensive sharing of the film Contagion, most likely because people thought they were experiencing an authentic film in their real lives … But it didn’t stop there.

After all, movie pirate has increased considerably, and some services have even suffered from some degradation of normal services. Something that also happened in the IPTV world at an early stage, and again at the end of April.

Therefore, at the beginning of the month, the website TorrentFreak created a graph with the peak traffic by country in BitTorrent. And my friends, Portugal is in fourth place, just behind much more affected countries like Italy and Spain, showing a 47% increase in illegal traffic.

Note: This graph shows the increase in visits between the last seven days of February and the last week of March, that is, the month when things became very real in Europe.

Interestingly, while the piracy of films and series has seriously increased, the piracy of sporting events has dropped by about 50%! All due to the fact that all sports worldwide have been postponed or even canceled. Something that also resulted in a decrease in IPTV Pirata subscriptions, a phenomenon that eventually changed in April, due to the fact that legal services were forced to lower image quality to keep Internet infrastructures ‘healthy’.
